Remembering Dr. Noel Rose

We were saddened to learn that Dr. Noel R. Rose, a pioneer in the field of autoimmunity and a former GDATF Board member, recently passed away at his home in Brookline, MA. His research on Hashimoto’s disease dates back to the 1950s at the University of Buffalo School of medicine. In 1985, Dr. Rose co-authored “The Autoimmune Diseases”, the first textbook to focus collectively on all of the autoimmune conditions, addressing the underlying connections between seemingly disparate conditions such as Graves’ disease, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and vitiligo. In 1991, Dr. Rose and Virginia T. Ladd founded the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association.

Dr. Rose served on the GDATF Board from 2010 until 2018 and presented at GDATF events in Charlotte, Baltimore, and San Diego. You can watch his 2012 San Diego presentation, “Introduction to Autoimmunity” below. When Dr. Rose was ready to step down from his position on the Board, he sent a lovely note explaining that he was looking to reduce his outside activities at age 90!

Our deepest condolences go out to the friends, family, and colleagues.
