2021 Annual Appeal Letter
Dear Friends,
Like you, we couldn’t wait to say a not-so-fond farewell to 2020! However, in a lot of ways, 2021 brought more of the same. With our in-person educational events and support group meetings still on hold, we’ve continued to find creative ways to help our community members feel both informed and connected to each other.
We were pleased to present free webinars this year on two highly requested topics: “Long-Term Use of Antithyroid Medications” and “Neuropsychiatric Complaints in Graves’ Disease.” You can view these programs (as well as all of our past webinars) in their entirety on our YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/GravesAndThyroid/videos. Write-ups of these webinars are also available as patient bulletins on our newly updated website at gdatf.org, where they can be viewed online or downloaded in PDF form.
Our website redesign has been in the works for quite some time, and we were pleased to unveil the new gdatf.org website last month. We’ve made changes that will provide you with a friendlier mobile experience as well as new accessibility features to put YOU in control of text size, text spacing, line height, and color contrast. We hope you’ll let us know what you think! You can reach us via the “Contact” form on this website, via email at info@gdatf.org, and on our patient hotline at 877-643-3123.
We’ve hosted Zoom support group meetings throughout the year (and yes, after all this time, we still keep forgetting to unmute). While we hope to return to in-person meetings in 2022, we’ll continue to keep online meetings as an option for community members who don’t have a nearby group. We also have three online communities: our gdatf.org online forum, our closed Facebook group, and the oneGRAVESvoice platform (a collaboration between the GDATF, Horizon Therapeutics, and rareLife Solutions), which features content in both English and Spanish.
Finally, we are planning to kick off 2022 with a virtual conference. Dates and details are still in the works, but you can always get the latest information by visiting gdatf.org and using the pop-up box to sign up for our free weekly newsletter. And if you can’t attend in person, the content will be made available for viewing on our YouTube channel after the event.
As 2021 draws to a close, please consider a donation to help the GDATF continue to serve patients and caregivers impacted by Graves’ disease, thyroid eye disease, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and related disorders. Donations can be made via check (payable to GDATF, P.O. Box 2793, Rancho Santa Fe, CA or processed securely on our web site using the “Donate” tab in the main menu or by clicking here.
Thanks for your support and wishing everyone a healthy, happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Kimberly K. Dorris, Executive Director and CEO
